La fin des Ottomans
The collapse of the Ottoman Empire triggered a seismic upheaval whose shockwaves are still felt today and lie at the root of the major rifts tearing our world apart.
The Balkans, the Caucasus, the Middle East, and the Arab world: the geography, borders, and multifaceted crises affecting these regions stem from the fate that befell the various parts of the Ottoman Empire throughout the 19th century and up to 1925. All of today’s states emerged from this dissolution, orchestrated by the dominant powers of the time—France and the United Kingdom. It is impossible to understand the present without grasping the magnitude of this fundamental upheaval.
