Meurtres sur les Iles du Frioul
A famous publisher from Marseille is found dead on the Frioul Islands during a performance of The Count of Monte Cristo. Victor Mariani, a young captain with the Marseille SRPJ (Criminal Investigation Department) assigned to the case, is surprised to encounter his father—Pierre Mariani, a legendary retired police commissioner from Lyon—at the crime scene. The victim was a former army buddy whom Pierre had not seen in fifty years. Pierre subsequently secures an appointment as a consultant on the investigation—a move that does not sit well with Victor, who had gone to great lengths to distance himself from his overly intrusive father. Yet, above all, Victor has no inkling of the tragic secret linking his father to the victim—and to his own origins.
